Eyeliner is one of my essential makeup staples, so it’s safe to say I have tried many different types of eyeliner in my lifetime. From pencils to liquid liners, I have used almost all of them and I have loved every single one!
My eyes have hooded lids, which means that it’s hard for me to find an eyeliner for hooded eyes that really works with my eyes and will stay on all day! Today, I’m sharing with you the best eyeliners that are perfect for those with hooded eyes!
Which Hooded Eye Type Are You?
I have hooded eyes, which means the skin above my eyelids is what creates the hood. This sometimes causes me some issues with eyeliners because I need something that will stay put, but not is too thick or heavy.
Now, there are a few different types of eyeliners that work really well on this eye type – up-turned, downturned, hooded, and round. So, what kind of eyeliners do I recommend? Here’s my list:
- Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Push-Up Liner. This liner was designed specifically for those who want their liner to last all day long! It goes on creamy, so it isn’t too harsh on your eyes when you first apply it. And you can even add more pressure as you go to make sure your liner stays where you want it! The only downside?
- There is a lot of product in the pot (1/3rd of an ounce), so I’d only recommend it if you don’t mind using it all before opening another one. 2) Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil ($20): these liners come in lots of colors (honeymoon from UD comes in pink!), including black, brown, and navy blue – so they’ll fit any look you might be going for!
Application Tips
If you have hooded eyes, it is essential that you find eyeliner that won’t smudge or transfer. Here are a few tips to help you find the perfect eyeliner for hooded eyes:
– Ensure your hands are clean and dry before applying eye makeup. If they’re not, wipe them on a towel or tissue before touching your face. – Apply a primer first. This will help keep your makeup in place and last longer throughout the day. – Select an eye pencil (rather than liquid) as it is easier to apply and will be less likely to smudge onto the delicate skin under your eyes.
– Put pressure on the pencil when applying it so that it creates more of a line rather than dragging across your skin which will cause smudging. Also, I would recommend using a pointed applicator because it will give you better control over where the product goes.
Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion
As someone who has hooded eyes, this is my holy grail eyeliner. It’s so soft and pigmented that it applies super smoothly with only one swipe. The 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion can be used as a liner or shadow, and I even use it on my waterline sometimes! Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Perversion is perfect because it doesn’t smudge at all and has a strong staying power. Even when I’m doing a ton of errands or am at work all day, my eyeliner still looks flawless.
Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Zero
The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Zero is a great eyeliner for hooded eyes. It’s not too thick and not too thin, making it perfect for beginners who want a really natural look. I use this product every day when I do my makeup, and it has lasted me so long. The price is also great at just under $20!
All you need is one pencil per eye (so if you wear mascara, buy two pencils), which means this last even longer than other drugstore brands. If you’re looking for an affordable option that doesn’t smudge or make your eyes sting while wearing, then I would highly recommend the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero!
Covergirl Smoky Shadow Blast in Rose Blast
After trying many different eyeliners, I’ve found that it is impossible to find a good match for my hooded eyes. The most difficult part about finding a good eyeliner is that it has to be long-lasting and waterproof. I’ve found that using liquid eyeliners is the best option because they are easy to apply and don’t smudge easily.
One of my favorite products is Covergirl’s Smoky Shadow Blast in Rose Blast. It’s not too dark but does add definition and color without being too overpowering. It also lasts all day without smudging or drying out which makes it perfect for those of us with hooded eyes!
How I Chose My Eye Liner
I used pencil eyeliner for a long time and loved it because it’s easy to apply, but I switched from pencils to liquid eyeliners after I heard about their longevity. I tried liquid eyeliner for hooded eyes and found that my holy grail is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eye Liner. This liner is so black and intense without being harsh on my lids or watery, making it perfect for my needs.
Plus, this liner stays in place all day long with no smudging! The only thing I don’t love about this product is that you need a sharpener to keep the tip precise. Other than that, this liner has been amazing and doesn’t budge at all. It also comes off easily with makeup remover so there isn’t any residue left behind.
NYX Professional Epic Ink Waterproof Eyeliner
I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a long-lasting eyeliner that will not transfer onto their skin or fade throughout the day! The liner is also perfect if you are looking for a more affordable option because it is so affordable. You can find it on Amazon, at Target, and most drugstores. The only downside of this product is that the tip of the applicator may get clogged from time to time.
Other than that, you will be very satisfied with your purchase. The NYX Epic Ink liner is waterproof, which makes it even better for those days when you know you’re going to cry- no smudging! It also does not flake off like some other liners do and stays put all day. If you have hooded eyes, make sure to use a thin liner brush like an angled brush or an ultra-thin eyeliner brush like this one from LORAC.
Sephora Collection Eyeliner Pencil to Go
The Sephora Collection Eyeliner Pencil to Go has been my go-to eyeliner pencil since I bought it over a year ago. It’s easy to use, and I love how rich black the color is. Plus, it doesn’t smudge throughout the day and is easy to remove with eye makeup remover when I’m done wearing makeup. It lasts me several months because of its long wear time and how pigmented it is.
However, this product might not work as well for those who have dry eyes. If you have dry eyes, you might want to try an eyeliner that’s more water resistant so it can stay on your eyes all day even if your lids get wet from rain or tears.
Aqua Gel Liner by Kat Von D: Another one of my favorite eyeliners is the Aqua Gel Liner by Kat Von D, which comes in black and brown colors. The gel liner goes on really smoothly and can be used as either a liquid or cream liner depending on what type of look you want to achieve that day.
M.A.C Cosmetics Brush Stroke 24-Hour liner
I have hooded eyes and I’m always on the hunt for a great eyeliner for hooded eyes that can work with my eyes. The M.A.C Cosmetics Brush Stroke 24-Hour Liner is one of my favorite products from this brand. This liner is highly pigmented, smudge-proof, and long-lasting—it’s everything I look for in an eyeliner! It’s also easy to apply with a thin brush tip, which makes it possible to create thin and thick lines as well as winged liner looks if that’s what you’re going for.
This product is also so affordable when you consider how long it lasts! You don’t need to worry about running out quickly or having to re-purchase it any time soon. If you’re looking for quality eyeliner for your hooded eyes, then check out the M.A.C Cosmetics Brush Stroke 24-Hour Liner today!
